How AgentProof Works
Our Principle
Consumers deserve free access to the same licensing information regulators have. We don't sell leads for placement and we don't invent ratings. We verify using public records and give you the context to make your own decision.
Data Sources
State Departments of Insurance (DOI)
Each state licenses insurance producers and publishes license status, lines of authority, and enforcement actions. This is the backbone of every agent profile. We add states as their public data becomes accessible in bulk.
NAIC — Carrier Complaint Index
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners publishes complaint data at the company level. We show a carrier's complaint index as context on agent profiles — but we never attribute company complaints to an individual agent, because that data simply does not exist at the agent level.
AM Best — Carrier Financial Ratings
Financial strength ratings for the carriers an agent represents, so you know how stable the company behind your policy is.
What Goes Into the Trust Score
- License stability: active status, no lapses, no disciplinary actions
- Years licensed: tenure as a producer
- Lines of authority: breadth of what they're licensed to sell
- States licensed: multi-state reach
- Carrier breadth: how many carriers they can place business with
Every factor is agent-level and drawn from public record. We deliberately exclude any agent-level “complaint ratio” because that data is not published for individual agents.
What We Don't Do
- We don't sell better placement or verification badges
- We don't attribute carrier complaints to individual agents
- We don't provide financial or insurance advice
- We don't replace your own due diligence or a licensed advisor
